Victors in the IISc Gymkhana Open Tournament(Tennis ball Cricket) |
IISc Gymkhana Open Cricket Tournament is an yearly event and this time JNCASR boys have brought it to Jakkur. Without a cricket ground at JNCASR and with shear motivation and dedication the boys have achieved this feat. Each of the players need a pat on their back. For past few years they have been the favorites to win the tournament, but this time they have done a wonderful job of proving their supporters correct. The JNCASR team has defeated 7 teams to win this tournament. In the finals the two teams had to play a best of three match and prior to May 5, 2002 match, both the teams had won a match each. This meant that the winner of the May 5, 2002 match would be the ultimate winner of the tournament.
Batting first, the JNC XI, christened as Nomads, amassed 119 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. Some innovative and near clinical executionof pre-match strategies were the highlights of their batting performance. As usual batting revolved around their two main players C. P.Vinod (capt) (top scored with 40 runs) and Sujay Subbaya with a major contribution coming from Sriram Sarvanan. It was Sriram's cameo up the order which set the momentum leading to a big total.
With the confidence high, the Nomads defended the score easily as Structures were clueless about the mounting run rate and pace attack. They meekly surrendered requiring nearly 50 runs, with the bowlers sharing honours equally. The pick of the bowlers was Krishnan with three wickets. This victory is a true reflection of how the Nomads performed in the entire tournament having won 8 of the 9 matches.
