Recombination News

Meiotic recombination occurs more frequently in some regions of the genome than in others. This occurs because of the non random distribution of DSBs that initiate the recombination events. The term hot spot is used to indicate a locus where the recombination frequency observed exceeds the average recombination frequency between markers for the entire genome. While recombination hot spots have been rapidly characterized in simpler systems like yeast by genetic and biochemical approaches, the identification of meiotic hot spots in mouse and humans has accelerated only recently. This database is a collection of human meiotic hot spots obtained from the literature along with interesting information on meiotic recombination and molecular features of meiotic hot spots. It is also updated as more hot spots get discovered in the human genome. The database can be queried by hot spot name or chromosome number.
