- What is a Private Network?
- A network of devices that can communicate between each other, but
does not communicate with any other set (for example, the LAN, or the
Internet).
- Private networks help to reduce traffic clutter
- Scientific computation is serious business; Separate it from browsing
for movie songs
- Certain classes of IP addresses have been designated as Private.
For example, the series, 10.0.0.x (or), 192.168.x.x cannot be used by
any computer on the Internet.
- Private IPs can be used within a campus too, to improve security.
- But one wants to communicate to the cluster also. Say, for submitting
jobs, to access data etc.. To do this, one needs to set up a gateway
between the private network of the cluster and the LAN.
- The gateway can be housed within the Master node
