Internship Opportunity January 2024 - Chronobiology & Behavioural Neurogenetics Lab
We are open to internships (minimum duration of 3 months with the possibility
of extension) to carry out any of the following projects.
Studies on populations evolving under a semi-natural environment (details
can be found here -
Chitrang Thesis 28Dec2022.pdf). Here we would be studying various life-history traits (development time,
fecundity, tolerance to various stressors and lifespan) and circadian
rhythms in oviposition. These would be conducted in our outdoor enclosure.
Previous experience in a fly lab is great, but not essential.
Studies on populations selected for morning or evening emergence (more
information on these populations can be found here -
Abhilash Thesis_10092020_revised.pdfArijit thesis revised 27052022.pdf). Here we are interested in exploring possible changes in their metabolism
and their immune responses. We also wish to document any possible effects on
wing expansion phenotype in the morning and evening emerging flies. Previous
experience in a fly lab is great, but not essential.
Studies on the consequences of presence/absence of conspecifics (social
experience) on subsequent (C1) behaviours and (C2) life history traits of
Drosophila melanogaster. In case of C1, we require the intern to have
experience of performing behavioural observations on any organism and/or
anyone with machine learning skills. For C2, previous experience in a fly
lab is great, but not essential.
There is no possibility for any fellowship or stipend for these visits. On the
other hand, we will approach our Dean Fellowships and Extensions office for
entry through the Long-term Visiting Student Programme (LVSP - more details
can be found here:
https://www.jncasr.ac.in/vsp).
Students will need to find accommodation nearby as on-campus accommodation is
not available. Interested students may email
