Membrane based techniques offer a cheap and energy efficient solution for the separation of gas mixtures when compared to traditional systems, though the challenge lies in obtaining high selectivity at a high flux rate. Gas separation membranes have found diverse applications in numerous processes involving hydrogen separation from petrochemicals,CO2 separation from natural gases, water gas enrichment and many others. The polymeric, zeolitic (or silica) and graphitic membranes usually employed for these applications often suffer from the loss of separation factor at high permeability which limits their applicability.

We reported a significant enhancement (nearly 20 times) in the gas permeability of annealed GO membranes compared to the as-prepared ones owing to the creation of easy permeation pathways for gas molecules. On the other hand, submicrometer thick MoS2 membranes were also investigated for their gas permeation properties and efficiency of H2/CO2separation. These membranes show high H2/CO2 separation at very high H2 permeability.
