Since November 2019, I have been working as a Junior Research fellow at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, India, mainly on two projects. The first consists of a PCR based SERS detection of SNPs and indels. It involves wet lab experiments, as well as the computational designing of the sequence specific primers tagged with dyes, which will be used to detect the occurrence of the SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) or indels in crops(such as tomato) with the help of Raman spectroscopy instead of conventional detection methods like fluorescence, which has disadvantages like photobleaching of dyes, and carrying out the PCR for large number of cycles to achieve sufficient fluorescenceThe designing of the primers is to be carried out by a software currently being written and developed by me in Python. My other work consists of development of a low cost Raman spectrometer, which is a project funded by the DST. We aspire to make a Raman Spectrometer which will be a lot cheaper compared to the ones that are commercially available.
