Message from Chair
Research is enlightening. Research is exciting. However, research can also be harming.
Research activity in a laboratory is prone to research hazards of many a kind – chemical, mechanical, biological, isotype, laser – many a kind. As skilled experts, it is our responsibility to minimize, even negate, work hazards. As responsible scientists, we must ensure work safety at least at three levels – protecting oneself, protecting one’s colleagues, and protecting one’s environment, near and distant.
JNCASR is one among many institutions in India to recognize the significance of work safety early and institute the Safety Committee to monitor work-related hazards on the campus. With ample cooperation from the community, leadership, and administration, the Safety Committee instituted several safety procedures in place.
However, given the limited staff members on the Committee, the commitment to work safety lies primarily with the research community, especially the group leaders, students, and other researchers.
Familiarity breeds complacency. Let us guard against complacency and maintain a safe and healthy work environment at JNCASR.
