Chemical biology approach to understand epigenetic phenomena
Work in our laboratory has immensely contributed to the area of modulators of chromatin modifying enzymes. These modulators have helped in understanding the epigenetic phenomena underlying several physiological and pathophysiological processes. The present focus of the laboratory is to find out the non-ATP analog inhibitors of Aurora Kinases, more potent small molecule modulators of Histone Acetyltransferases and Arginine Methyltransferases from natural sources.recently, we have identified a specific inhibitor of histone acetyltransferase PCAF by employing which the role of PCAF acetylation in muscle differentiation is being investigated. In another interesting finding, we have isolated a very specific inhibitor of histone arginine methyltransferase PRMT4/CARM1. Using this inhibitor as a synthon, we have synthesized a few novel inhibitor of arginine methyltransferase which may hane some therapeutic importance.
