C.N.R. Rao Hall of Science

The C. N. R. Rao Hall of Science was inaugurated by the Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on December 3, 2008 at a ceremony held at JNCASR. The CNR Rao Hall of Science comprises of the Madan Mohan Malaviya Amphitheatre with a capacity to seat about 200-225 people. The Chemistry of Materials Exposition and the Prof. C.N.R. Rao Archives along with a Viewing Room are located in the Hall of Science. Education Technology Unit (ETU) and SOP – POCE (Project oriented Chemical Education) laboratory are part of the Hall of Science. The Hall of Science is a self-contained unit for the promotion of science.

The main objective of establishing the Hall of Science was to expose school/college students and teachers to the excitement of doing science and to introduce them to the current trends in various fields of science. The CNR Rao Hall of Science is thus a dedicated venue for direct contact programmes to popularize Science among students and to enhance the skills of Science teachers. With this in view the Hall of Science & ETU under the auspices of the Science Outreach program organizes and conducts Teacher-student programs/workshops for school/college students and teachers. These programs have been conducted in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the Madan Mohan Malaviya Amphitheatre regularly from the time of its inception. The Hall of Science has a corpus fund for conducting these programs. These programs have proved to be highly successful and popular.
