Antibiotic adjuvants

Antibiotic adjuvants

After first isolation of penicillin by Alexander Fleming in 1940, antibiotics have been one of the most important discoveries in clinical therapeutics. However, antibiotic resistance by bacteria and the limited number of effective antibiotics available decreases the number of effective interventions to tackle current bacterial infections. In our lab, with an aim of rehabilitation of the shelved out, inactive antibiotics, we are working on developing antibiotic adjuvants, i.e. agents which, when used in combination with the obsolete or ineffective antibiotic, can repurpose or reactivate the antibiotic against clinically relevant superbugs.
