We have developed a theory for understanding the weak ferromagnetism and canting of the antiferromagnetic backbone in alloyed orthoferrites such as YFe1-xCrxO3. Experimental results from the group of Prof. Sundaresan at JNCASR have been consistently and quantitatively explained within this theory. We have argued that the interplay of various interactions that we have considered here is relevant for all B-site disordered perovskite compounds.
