The molecular mechanisms responsible for severity of malaria infection and drug resistance

My laboratory focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms responsible for the severity of malaria infection and drug resistance (in Plasmodium falciparum as well as in Plasmodium vivax)in Indian patients from endemic regions. We have been also studying cross-talk between various stress pathways in Plasmodium falciparum. Recently we demonstrated that basal and starvation-induced context-dependent autophagy mediates parasite survival.
