Thanikodi completed his M.Sc. in Zoology in 2017, from the Chikkanna Government Arts College, Bharathiar University. He carried out work on assessing the threats to large mammal populations in the Western Ghats, before joining JNCASR as a Project Associate in 2021. He is currently examining the resource availability for elephants in Nagarahole.
