RNA metabolism encompasses within itself all the aspects of RNA life cycle starting from its synthesis up until its decay. Robust regulation of RNA metabolism is necessary for establishment of RNA homeostasis especially under dynamic cellular conditions. Moreover, dysregulation of RNA metabolism is often witnessed in diseases that leads to dysfunctional RNA homeostasis. My research group aims to understand how cells achieve RNA homeostasis in physiological conditions and its dysregulation in pathological conditions. To address this question, we will employ a variety of molecular, biochemical, cellular, and imaging-based methods aiming to elucidate the underpinning mechanisms and dynamics of the cellular processes that regulate RNA metabolism. As an entry point to this question, we are presently studying the mechanisms of RNA metabolism that get dysregulated in ALS/FTD.
