Achira Roy obtained her PhD in Biology, specializing in developmental neuroscience, from the Department of Biological Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India. She carried out her post-doctoral research at Seattle Children's Hospital & Research Institute, Seattle, USA in the field of translational neuroscience. Dr. Roy joined the Neuroscience Unit, JNCASR in September 2021 with the prestigious DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellowship, to start her laboratory focused on developmental and translational neurobiology.
The Neurodevelopment Lab aims to study the cellular, molecular and evolutionary underpinnings of normal and diseased brain development; and to preclinically assess potential small-molecule targets to non-invasively treat the associated neurodevelopmental disorders. To study such complicated mechanisms, different interdisciplinary scientific approaches will be applied. These include, but not limited to, mammalian neurodevelopment, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, mouse and human pathophysiology, and preclinical drug screenings.
