After the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physics, from the University of Calcutta, Subir Das obtained a Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University at New Delhi. His thesis work, on Pattern Formation in Nonequilibrium Systems, was carried out under the supervision of Sanjay Puri. This was followed by two postdoctoral positions in Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and University of Maryland at College Park, USA. During these periods he worked with Jürgen Horbach, Kurt Binder and Michael Fisher on several equilibrium and nonequlibrium aspects of phase transitions as well as on glassy dynamics. He joined JNCASR in November, 2007.
