Post-doctoral opening for an SERB-funded project under Prof. Ganesh Subramanian, Engineering Mechanics Unit | Research Associate |
We are looking for highly motivated PhD scholars to work on problems in theoretical microhydrodynamics. The position available is a Research Associate (I, II or III depending on prior post-doctoral experience) under auspices of the SERB project titled 'Motion of anisotropic particles in viscoelastic shearing flows: Microstructure, rheology and shear-induced migration'. Applicants will have to have a strong background in microhydrodynamics, with expertise in applied mathematics and physics, and published/accepted papers in top-tier Mechanics/physics journals (examples include the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physical Review Fluids, Physical Review Letters, etc). The principal problem will involve use of a spheroidal harmonics framework to determine the position-cum-orientation dynamics of an anisotropic particle in a viscoelastic shearing flow as a function of the Deborah number. The results of the analysis and computations will be applied to a range of suspension-related problems including rheology, shear-induced migration, scalar transport and hydrodynamic stability. Motivated candidates will have ample opportunities to work on fundamental problems in other areas of fluid mechanics: examples include particle motion in stratified fluids, Statistical mechanical theory for bacterial turbulence and related areas in Active Matter, Elastic and inertio-elastic instabilities. Interested applicants may mail their resume, along with supporting material (papers/preprints) to sganesh@jncasr.ac.in, emuoffice@jncasr.ac.in. The deadline is January 15th, 2023. |
