Integrated B.S. (Research)- Ph.D. Programme

Beginning in AY 2026–27, JNCASR will introduce a new flagship programme: the Integrated B.S. (Research)–Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Sciences. This programme is designed to provide high-impact training through rigorous coursework, advanced research exposure, and skill development, aligned with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

1. Eligibility for Integrated B.S. (Research)- Ph.D. Programme

  • Candidates with a 3 yrs B.Sc. or having completed 120 credits in a Bachelors programme with minimum 55 % marks in areas as listed in Table 2 are eligible to apply.

  • Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as one of the major subject.

2. Physics
  • Students with minimum of 55% at Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Physics as one of the major subject.
  • Candidates who have qualified the JAM 2026/CUET 2026 written test (for Master's) are strongly encouraged to apply
3. Materials
  • Students with minimum of 55% at Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with sound knowledge in the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Candidates who have qualified the JAM 2026/CUET 2026 (for Master's) are encouraged to apply
4. Biology (offered in following streams: Evolutionary and Organismal Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Neuroscience) For Molecular Biology and Genetics and Neuroscience:
  • Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Biology as one major subject.
  • Candidates who have qualified the JAM 2026/CUET 2026 written test (for Master's) are strongly encouraged to apply.
For Evolutionary and Organismal Biology:
  • Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science or equivalent degree.
  • Candidates who have qualified the JAM 2026/CUET 2026 written test (for Master's) are strongly encouraged to apply.
5. Mechanics and Computing
  • Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree Physics or Mathematics or Earth Science or BS-degree (having completed 120 credits in 3 years) in Chemical Engineering & related fields.

2. Selection procedure:

  • Candidates are short-listed for an interview based on their score in the national exam(s) like JAM 2026/CUET 2026 /JNCASR 2026 entrance exam (based on Unit criteria) and academic performance. The selection to the program is based on the performance in the interview.

Note: Interviews shall be held only in-person.

3. Progression & Exit Pathways :

1. If ≥ 7.5 Eligible for consideration for Ph.D progression and Master of Science (Research) May apply for Ph.D registration, subject to interview, national eligibility (if applicable), and availability of suitable Fellowship/vacancy.
2. If 6.0 – 7.5

Not eligible for direct Ph.D progression. However, Ph.D registration is possible on completion of Master of Science (Research) degree.

Eligible to complete Master of Science (Research) degree.
3. If below 6.0 Does not meet progression requirement May exit with applicable degree as per Centre's norms.

Degrees awarded : At the end of

  • 1st year: Bachelor of Science (Research)- B.S.( Res.) in specific subject areas
  • 2nd year: Master of Science- M.S. in specific subject areas
  • 4th year or later: Ph.D.

4. Scholarships/Fellowships:

  • Only students continuing to the Ph.D programme shall receive suitable fellowship based on Centre's norms, during the Ph.D tenure.

5. Medical / Insurance facility:

  • Applicable as per norms of the Centre. The students have access to on-campus doctors, physiotherapists, counsellors, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

6. Travel grants:

  • Ph.D students will receive travel grant upto Rs.1,00,000/- as per Centre’s norms, to attend international/national conferences.
