Varun Bhaskar

Assistant Professor

Dr. Varun Bhaskar obtained PhD from the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich, Munich, Germany in 2015. His doctoral research in the lab of Prof. Elena Conti at the Max-Planck Institute of Biochemistry focussed on elucidating the mechanisms involved in the regulation of the Ccr4-Not complex which acts as the primary deadenylase complex in the eukaryotes.

Thereafter, he went to pursue his post-doctoral research in the lab of Dr. Jeffrey Chao at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. During the initial part of his post-doctoral research, he focused on studying mechanisms involved in regulating RNA transport and translation. Later, he has moved on to studying how RNA metabolism is getting dysregulated in ALS/FTD.
